iron polymaltose complex

Ferranem Microgránulos is an oral iron supplement containing iron(III) hydroxide polymaltose complex (IPC). Developed and marketed by the Chilean pharmaceutical company Chemopharma, it is indicated for the prevention and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia. The IPC formulation consists of a polynuclear iron(III)-hydroxide core surrounded by polymaltose molecules, which protects the iron from causing oxidative damage in the gastrointestinal tract and allows for controlled absorption via active transport. This results in improved tolerability and a lower incidence of gastrointestinal side effects compared to traditional ferrous salts. The microgranule formulation is specifically designed to provide flexible dosing and ease of administration for patients who may have difficulty with traditional tablet forms.
