Overview

The irradiated B16-HDD1 vaccine is an experimental cancer immunotherapy primarily utilized in preclinical research models of melanoma. It consists of B16 murine melanoma cells that have been genetically modified to express specific antigens or immunostimulatory molecules (denoted by the HDD1 designation) and subsequently lethally irradiated. Irradiation ensures that the tumor cells are metabolically active and capable of presenting antigens to the immune system but are unable to proliferate or form tumors upon administration. The vaccine is designed to stimulate a systemic anti-tumor immune response by providing a broad array of tumor-associated antigens in a pro-inflammatory context, often used to study the efficacy of combination therapies with checkpoint inhibitors or other immunomodulatory agents.
