Overview

The irradiated B16F10 vaccine is a preclinical, experimental whole-cell tumor vaccine used primarily in murine melanoma research. It is derived from the B16F10 melanoma cell line, which is highly aggressive and poorly immunogenic. The cells are rendered non-viable through lethal doses of irradiation (e.g., X-ray), ensuring they cannot proliferate while maintaining their repertoire of tumor-associated antigens. When administered, these cells serve as a source of antigens to stimulate the host immune system, specifically aiming to induce tumor-specific T cell and NK cell responses. In research settings, it is frequently used to evaluate the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (like anti-CTLA-4 or anti-PD-1) or combined with adjuvants such as GM-CSF or IL-12 to enhance immunogenicity.
