Irrisept

Irrisept is a wound debridement and cleansing system containing 0.05% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) in 99.5% sterile water. It is designed for mechanical irrigation and chemical antisepsis to reduce the risk of surgical site infections, particularly those caused by *Cutibacterium acnes* during orthopedic procedures such as primary shoulder arthroplasty. The solution provides broad-spectrum bactericidal activity by disrupting bacterial cell membranes and is effective against various antibiotic-resistant strains and biofilms. Developed by Irrimax Corporation and evaluated in clinical trials sponsored by Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan, Irrisept is used as a prophylactic measure to cleanse the surgical site and remove debris without damaging underlying tissues.
