Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IRT-COV is an experimental universal coronavirus vaccine candidate developed by Biological Mimetics using its proprietary Immune Refocusing Technology (IRT). The IRT platform utilizes protein engineering to mask immunodominant, highly variable epitopes on viral antigens—such as the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein—that typically act as decoys for the immune system. By dampening the response to these variable regions, the vaccine refocuses the immune system toward conserved, subdominant epitopes that are critical for viral entry and less prone to mutation. This approach is intended to elicit broad-spectrum neutralizing antibodies capable of protecting against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants and potentially other related coronaviruses. The candidate is currently in preclinical development.
