Overview

IS155 is a second-generation imidazolium compound being developed as a tumor-specific intravesical therapeutic agent for the treatment of high-grade non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Developed through a collaboration between Fox Chase Cancer Center and the University of Akron, IS155 acts as an exfoliant that induces apoptosis in bladder cancer cells via the mitochondrial pathway. Unlike first-generation imidazolium compounds, IS155 demonstrates selective toxicity toward tumor tissues while sparing normal murine bladder urothelium. It is intended as a potential alternative or adjunct to BCG therapy, particularly in the context of BCG shortages or for patients requiring bladder preservation.
