Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Isabgol + lactulose is a fixed-dose combination of two laxatives used primarily for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation and to maintain regular bowel function in patients prone to constipation[1][2][3]. Isabgol (also known as ispaghula or psyllium husk) acts as a bulk-forming laxative by absorbing water in the intestine to increase stool bulk and promote peristalsis. Lactulose is an osmotic laxative that draws water into the colon and acidifies colonic contents through bacterial fermentation; this softens stools and stimulates bowel movements. The combination provides both immediate osmotic action (from lactulose) and longer-term regulation of bowel habits (from isabgol), making it useful for chronic constipation management[1][2][3]. It may also be used in cases associated with irritable bowel syndrome. Common side effects include flatulence and abdominal discomfort.
