Isarna Therapeutics is developing a portfolio of locked nucleic acid (LNA)-modified antisense oligonucleotides designed to target the three isoforms of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β1, TGF-β2, and TGF-β3) for the treatment of various cancers. TGF-β signaling is a key driver of tumor progression, facilitating immune evasion, angiogenesis, and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). By selectively targeting the messenger RNA of these isoforms, Isarna's oncology program aims to suppress the pro-tumorigenic effects of the TGF-β pathway. While the company's lead candidate, ISTH0036, is focused on ophthalmic indications, this pan-TGF-β oncology program represents a distinct effort to address solid tumors and other oncology indications through RNA-targeted modulation of the tumor microenvironment.
