Isatoribine is a small molecule guanosine analog that acts as an immunopotentiating agent. It functions as a selective agonist of Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7), a pattern-recognition receptor present on certain immune system cells. By activating TLR7, isatoribine stimulates the innate immune response and elevates levels of interferon-alpha, resulting in antiviral and antimetastatic activity. Isatoribine was developed primarily for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and demonstrated dose-dependent reductions in HCV viral load in clinical studies. The drug was initially developed by F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., with Anadys Pharmaceuticals also involved in its development; however, it has since been discontinued from further development[1][2][3][5][6][7].
