ISC-hpNSC is a proprietary cell therapy consisting of human neural stem cells (hNSCs) derived from human parthenogenetic stem cells (hpSCs). Developed by International Stem Cell Corporation (ISCO), this therapeutic candidate is designed for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The therapy involves the intracranial transplantation of these neural stem cells into the striatum and substantia nigra of the brain. The mechanism of action is intended to provide neurotrophic support to existing neurons and potentially differentiate into functional dopaminergic neurons to replace those lost to the disease. The use of parthenogenetic stem cells, which are derived from unfertilized oocytes, is intended to minimize immune rejection and avoid the ethical concerns associated with embryonic stem cells.
