Overview

Iscador A is a fermented plant-based extract derived from mistletoe (*Viscum album*) grown on fir trees (*Abies*). Developed as an anthroposophic medicinal product, it is used in integrative oncology as an adjuvant therapy for various types of cancer. Administered via subcutaneous injection, Iscador A is designed to stimulate the immune system and exert direct cytotoxic effects on tumor cells. The extract contains pharmacologically active constituents, including mistletoe lectins, which are known to inhibit protein synthesis by targeting ribosomes, and viscotoxins, which induce cell membrane damage. It is widely prescribed in German-speaking European countries to improve the quality of life and reduce the side effects of conventional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation, although it is not approved by the U.S. FDA.
