Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Iscador Qu Spezial is a botanical biological preparation derived from a fermented aqueous extract of fresh European mistletoe (*Viscum album L.*) grown specifically on oak trees (*Quercus*). Developed by Iscador AG in association with the Society for Cancer Research (Verein für Krebsforschung), it is administered via subcutaneous injection. The extract is characterized by its content of viscotoxins and mistletoe lectins, which are believed to exert immune-modulating, antitumor, and antiangiogenic effects. It has been primarily investigated as a complementary or supportive treatment for advanced (stage III–IV) pancreatic cancer with the goal of improving overall survival and health-related quality of life when used alongside standard palliative chemotherapy or best supportive care. It is also used in other oncology settings, including breast, lung, and colorectal cancers, and is registered as a herbal medicinal product for well-established use in Sweden.
