Iscotrizinol is an organic compound from the triazine family used as a broad-spectrum chemical sunscreen filter. It absorbs UVB and some UVA radiation with peak protection at 310 nm. Iscotrizinol is notable for its exceptional photostability—requiring about 25 hours to lose just 10% of its SPF protection ability—making it one of the most stable chemical sunscreens available. Its mechanism of action involves absorbing UVB and UVA II rays and converting them into harmless heat energy that dissipates from the skin[1][5][6]. It is highly soluble in oils and alcohols but insoluble in water. Iscotrizinol is considered non-irritating and non-sensitizing when used up to recommended concentrations in cosmetic formulations[5]. It does not show reproductive toxicity or interfere with fertility based on animal studies; however, it poses significant environmental hazards to aquatic ecosystems[5].
