Overview

ISIS-MMP9rx (also known as ISIS 25302) is an antisense oligonucleotide developed by Ionis Pharmaceuticals (formerly Isis Pharmaceuticals) designed to inhibit the production of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9). MMP9 is a type of enzyme that breaks down the extracellular matrix; while necessary for normal tissue remodeling, its overabundance in chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, is associated with impaired healing. By specifically targeting and reducing MMP9 mRNA levels through an RNase H-dependent mechanism, ISIS-MMP9rx aims to restore the balance of tissue remodeling and promote wound closure. The drug was primarily investigated for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers in Phase 2 clinical trials, though development has since been discontinued.
