Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Isoacteoside (also known as isoverbascoside) is a naturally occurring phenylethanoid glycoside isolated from various medicinal plants, such as *Cistanche deserticola* and *Monochasma savatieri*. It is being investigated for its cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. In the context of myocardial infarction (MI), isoacteoside acts as a small-molecule inhibitor of A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase 8 (ADAM8), preventing the cleavage of long-OPA1 (L-OPA1) to short-OPA1 (S-OPA1) on the inner mitochondrial membrane, thereby preserving mitochondrial fusion dynamics and reducing myocardial injury. Additionally, isoacteoside has been shown to inhibit Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) dimerization, suppressing downstream inflammatory cascades (such as NF-κB and MAPK pathways) and mitigating acute kidney injury (AKI) and other inflammatory conditions.
