Overview

Isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate is a fast-polymerizing, small molecule tissue adhesive from the cyanoacrylate family. Upon contact with moisture, it rapidly polymerizes to form a strong bond, making it useful for wound closure and as an alternative to sutures in various surgical procedures. It provides rapid hemostasis, minimal scarring, and acts as a barrier against infection due to its bacteriostatic properties. Isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate is biodegradable and eliminated via urine and feces. Its applications include closure of skin incisions or lacerations in general surgery, ENT, vascular surgery, cosmetic procedures, dental/periodontal surgery, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, laparoscopy and more[3][4][5][6]. The mechanism of action involves exothermic polymerization upon exposure to water or tissue fluids at the application site[6].
