isoetharine

Isoetharine is a selective, short-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist and bronchodilator. It acts by stimulating beta-2 adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, leading to activation of adenylyl cyclase and increased cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels. This results in relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle, improved airway patency, and relief from symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness associated with asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and other obstructive lung diseases. Isoetharine was one of the early selective beta agonists developed after epinephrine and isoprenaline for rapid relief of bronchospasm. It is no longer available in the United States but remains available in some countries including Germany, India, and Japan[1][3][5][6].
