Overview
Isoferulic acid is a naturally occurring phenolic compound classified as a hydroxycinnamic acid derivative. It is found as a major active ingredient in the rhizome of Cimicifuga heracleifolia and other plants. Isoferulic acid exhibits multiple biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, antidiabetic, and anticancer effects[1][4][6]. Mechanistically, it has been shown to inhibit capsule synthesis in Klebsiella pneumoniae by reducing capsular polysaccharide production[4], induce G2/M-phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in leukemia cells via inhibition of Akt/mTOR signaling[6], and activate adrenergic receptors[1]. Its broad pharmacological profile makes it an experimental candidate for various therapeutic applications.
