Isoflurane + vecuronium is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents commonly used together during general anesthesia for surgical procedures. Isoflurane is a volatile inhalational anesthetic that induces and maintains general anesthesia by enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission, primarily through potentiation of GABA receptor activity and modulation of other ion channels, leading to central nervous system depression, muscle relaxation, and loss of consciousness. Vecuronium is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent (aminosteroid class) that acts as a competitive antagonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction, resulting in skeletal muscle paralysis. When used together, isoflurane can potentiate the neuromuscular blockade produced by vecuronium; this allows for lower doses of vecuronium to achieve the desired level of muscle relaxation during surgery[1][2][5]. The combination does not have unique brand or code names but represents standard clinical practice in anesthesiology.
