Overview

Isogambogenic acid (iso-GNA) is a naturally occurring xanthone and an isomer of gambogenic acid, typically isolated from the resin of the *Garcinia hanburyi* tree. It is being investigated for its potent antineoplastic properties, particularly in the context of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Unlike many conventional chemotherapeutic agents that trigger apoptosis, isogambogenic acid has been shown to induce apoptosis-independent autophagic cell death. This process is characterized by the formation of autophagic vacuoles, increased conversion of LC3-I to LC3-II, and the upregulation of key autophagy-related proteins such as Atg7 and Beclin 1. Its ability to bypass apoptosis makes it a candidate for treating cancers that have developed resistance to traditional apoptosis-inducing drugs.
