**Isoginkgetin** is a naturally occurring biflavonoid compound derived from Ginkgo biloba leaves, structurally composed of two apigenin units linked by a 3',8'' carbon-carbon bond. It acts as a small molecule inhibitor of several key biological proteins, notably functioning as a potent inhibitor of ATP-citrate lyase (ACLY), thereby reducing lipid synthesis and exhibiting lipid-lowering effects. Mechanistically, isoginkgetin is also known as a general inhibitor of pre-mRNA splicing as it targets spliceosome assembly. In cancer research, isoginkgetin inhibits matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9), reduces tumor growth in animal models, and has demonstrated effects as a CDK6 inhibitor and as an enhancer of tumor antigen presentation. It also shows anti-inflammatory actions, e.g., suppressing iNOS in activated microglia and reversing lipopolysaccharide-induced depression-like and pro-inflammatory responses in animal models.
