Overview

Isoimperatorin is a **natural furanocoumarin (psoralen derivative)** found in various plants, including Angelica dahurica, parsley, lime, wild celery, and parsnip. It possesses a range of biological activities, notably **anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiproliferative, analgesic, antimicrobial, and vascular relaxing effects**[1][2][3][4][17]. Mechanistic studies demonstrate that isoimperatorin can induce apoptosis and suppress proliferation in tumor cell lines (e.g., AML, melanoma), inhibit COX-2, modulate acetylcholinesterase, interact with multiple nuclear hormone receptors (estrogen, androgen, glucocorticoid, thyroid), bind aromatase and PPAR gamma, and alter cellular pathways such as the MAPK and calcium signaling pathways[3][2][4][13][14]. It is being explored for its effects against acute myeloid leukemia, neurotoxicity (Alzheimer’s/Parkinson’s models), synovial inflammation, and fibrosis[3][6][7].
