Overview

Isolagen Therapy is an autologous cell-based biologic therapy consisting of a patient's own dermal fibroblasts. Developed by Castle Creek Biosciences (following its acquisition of Fibrocell Science), the treatment involves harvesting a small skin biopsy from the patient, expanding the fibroblast cells in a laboratory setting, and re-injecting them into the patient's restrictive burn scar tissue. The therapy is designed to remodel the scar tissue and improve the range of motion in joint areas affected by stable restrictive burn scars. The manufacturing process utilizes a patented technology to create tailored cell-based doses for each patient. While it was evaluated in a Phase 2 pilot study, the clinical development for the restrictive burn scar indication was subsequently withdrawn.
