Overview

Isoleucine-tryptophan dipeptide is a synthetic or naturally derived peptide composed of the amino acids isoleucine and tryptophan. It has been studied for its antihypertensive and cardioprotective effects. Mechanistically, it acts as a potent inhibitor of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), with an in vitro IC50 of 0.7 μM. In animal models (spontaneously hypertensive rats), administration of this dipeptide significantly reduced systolic blood pressure and myocardial mass compared to controls. It also blunted tissue ACE activity, reduced matrix metalloproteinase-2 activity (MMP-2), improved coronary flow reserve, and decreased plasma ACE activity. These effects suggest potential utility as a functional food additive or nutraceutical for attenuating hypertension and providing cardiovascular protection[1][4][7].
