Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Isolyte is a family of sterile, nonpyrogenic intravenous solutions designed for fluid and electrolyte replenishment. Developed and manufactured by B. Braun, these solutions are formulated to mimic the electrolyte composition of human plasma or to provide specific maintenance requirements. Common variants like Isolyte S are buffered to a physiological pH (7.4) using acetate and gluconate, which are metabolized to bicarbonate, helping to maintain acid-base balance. It is primarily used in clinical settings for the treatment of extracellular fluid depletion, maintenance of fluid balance during surgery, and correction of electrolyte imbalances or metabolic acidosis.
