Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Isolyte P in 5% Dextrose is a sterile, nonpyrogenic multi-electrolyte intravenous solution manufactured by B. Braun Medical Inc. It is formulated to provide a source of electrolytes, calories, and water for hydration, and it also functions as an alkalinizing agent. The solution contains dextrose (5g per 100mL), sodium acetate trihydrate, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride hexahydrate, and dibasic potassium phosphate. It is primarily indicated for adults requiring fluid and electrolyte replenishment, providing approximately 170 calories per liter with a calculated osmolarity of 340 mOsmol/liter. As a small molecule electrolyte replacement therapy, it does not have a specific biological protein target but rather restores physiological levels of essential ions and provides metabolic energy.
