Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Isosorbide Lauriad is a muco-adhesive buccal tablet formulation of isosorbide (typically isosorbide dinitrate) developed using the proprietary Lauriad technology. This technology allows for the sustained release of the active ingredient directly into the systemic circulation via the oral mucosa, bypassing first-pass hepatic metabolism. Isosorbide acts as a nitric oxide donor, leading to the activation of soluble guanylate cyclase and subsequent vasodilation of both peripheral arteries and veins. This reduces cardiac preload and afterload, making it effective for the treatment and prevention of angina pectoris and the management of chronic cardiac failure. Vectans Pharma currently manages the development and commercialization of this program, which was originally part of the BioAlliance Pharma (later Onxeo) portfolio.
