Isosorbide mononitrate is a small molecule antianginal agent in the nitrate class used primarily to prevent angina pectoris (chest pain) associated with coronary artery disease. It acts as a prodrug for nitric oxide (NO), which induces vasodilation by relaxing vascular smooth muscle.
