Overview

Isosteviol is a diterpenoid compound derived from the hydrolysis of stevioside, a natural sweetener found in Stevia rebaudiana. It exhibits multiple biological activities, including inhibition of DNA polymerases and human DNA topoisomerase II, which are enzymes involved in DNA replication and cell proliferation. Isosteviol has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, anticancer, and anti-tuberculosis effects in preclinical studies. It also retards the growth of various human cancer cells and inhibits inflammation induced by TPA (12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate). In addition to its pharmaceutical potential for chronic diseases such as cancer and inflammation-related conditions, isosteviol is used as a low-calorie natural sweetener in food products and has applications in cosmetics for its moisturizing properties[1][4][7].
