Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The isothiocyanate mixture (ITC mixture) is a preclinical research compound consisting of a defined combination of three plant-derived electrophilic compounds: allyl isothiocyanate (AITC, ~37.9%), benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC, ~50.0%), and phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC, ~12.1%). This ratio is designed to mimic the active isothiocyanate profile of the clinical herbal formulation Angocin Anti-Infekt N. The mixture is being investigated for its dual therapeutic potential as an antithrombotic agent and an antimicrobial enhancer. Mechanistically, the ITC mixture suppresses platelet activation and aggregation by disrupting mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, altering redox homeostasis, and attenuating key platelet signaling pathways (such as AKT phosphorylation and intracellular calcium mobilization). In preclinical models of thrombosis, it limits thrombus formation and thrombo-inflammatory organ injury. Additionally, the mixture has demonstrated antimicrobial activity and synergistic effects when combined with conventional antibiotics (such as fosfomycin, nitrofurantoin, and imipenem) against multidrug-resistant uropathogens.
