Overview

Isovitexin is a naturally occurring flavone, specifically the apigenin 6-C-glucoside, found in various medicinal plants such as passion flower, Cannabis, oat, and açaí palm. It is structurally related to vitexin (apigenin 8-C-glucoside) but differs by the position of its glucose moiety[5][1]. Isovitexin exhibits a range of pharmacological activities including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer (notably against colon cancer), neuroprotective, and analgesic effects[2][4][10]. Mechanistically, it has been shown to inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokine expression (e.g., TNF-alpha, IFN-gamma), induce apoptosis in activated T cells and tumor cells via caspase activation and PARP cleavage[7][10], and suppress PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathways implicated in cancer cell survival[10]. Isovitexin is widely studied as an active component of traditional Chinese medicines for its potential therapeutic benefits across multiple disease models.
