Isoxsuprine is a small molecule vasodilator and beta-adrenergic agonist used to treat conditions caused by poor blood circulation, such as peripheral vascular disease (including arteriosclerosis obliterans, Buerger's disease), Raynaud's disease, and cerebrovascular insufficiency. It acts primarily by relaxing vascular and uterine smooth muscle through stimulation of beta-adrenergic receptors, leading to dilation of arteries—especially those supplying skeletal muscle—thereby improving blood flow. Isoxsuprine has also been used off-label for the prevention of premature labor and for menstrual pain. The drug was previously marketed under brand names such as Vasodilan but has been withdrawn from the U.S. market due to lack of evidence for efficacy in its approved indications[1][2][3][4][7][9].
