Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Agiocur is a bulk-forming laxative and fiber supplement primarily composed of the seeds and husks of *Plantago ovata* (ispaghula). It functions by absorbing water in the gastrointestinal tract to form a mucilaginous mass, which increases stool volume and softens consistency, thereby stimulating intestinal peristalsis and facilitating defecation. Unlike its sibling product Agiolax, which contains sennosides, Agiocur is a pure fiber product without stimulant laxative components. It is indicated for the treatment of chronic constipation, conditions requiring soft stools (such as anal fissures or hemorrhoids), and as a dietary fiber supplement in the management of irritable bowel syndrome.
