Overview

Istaroxime is an investigational drug being developed for the treatment of acute decompensated heart failure. It acts as a positive inotropic agent by inhibiting sodium-potassium ATPase, which increases intracellular calcium levels, enhancing myocardial contractility. Additionally, it activates the sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase isoform 2a (SERCA2a), improving myocardial relaxation. Istaroxime is administered intravenously.
