Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ITGA11-CAR macrophages (ITGA11-CAR-Ms) are genetically engineered macrophages transduced with a lentiviral vector to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) targeting Integrin alpha-11 (ITGA11). Developed by researchers at Zhongda Hospital, Southeast University, these engineered cells are designed to target and clear activated myofibroblasts expressing ITGA11, which is highly upregulated in pathological cardiac tissue post-myocardial infarction (MI). By selectively phagocytosing ITGA11-expressing myofibroblasts, ITGA11-CAR macrophages attenuate cardiac fibrosis, restrict fibrotic area expansion, and improve left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and fractional shortening, offering a potential immunotherapeutic strategy for treating post-MI remodeling and heart failure.
