ITGB1-pulsed dendritic cell vaccine is an experimental cell-based immunotherapy being developed by researchers at the University of Michigan. The vaccine consists of dendritic cells that have been loaded (pulsed) with the integrin β1 (ITGB1) protein to induce a targeted immune response. ITGB1 is highly expressed on melanoma cells and melanoma cancer stem cells (CSCs), which are implicated in tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis. By presenting ITGB1 antigens, the vaccine aims to stimulate both T-cell mediated and humoral immunity against these CSC populations. Preclinical studies in mouse melanoma models have demonstrated that the ITGB1-DC vaccine significantly inhibits tumor growth and lung metastases, with enhanced efficacy observed when used in combination with ITGB3-targeted vaccines or immune checkpoint inhibitors such as anti-PD-L1.
