**ITGB3-overexpressing mesenchymal stem cells** are genetically engineered umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that have been modified *ex vivo* (typically via lentiviral transduction) to overexpress integrin beta 3 (ITGB3)[1][2][3][4]. The purpose of this modification is to increase expression of ITGB3, a migration-promoting integrin, thereby enhancing MSC homing to sites of vascular injury or atherosclerotic plaque and augmenting their therapeutic efficacy. Mechanistically, ITGB3 overexpression improves the migratory and chemotactic ability of MSCs without affecting their viability, differentiation, or secretory profile[1][2][3][4]. Preclinical mouse studies show enhanced migration to plaque, reduced atherosclerotic plaque burden, and modulation of local tissue cytokine balance with increased anti-inflammatory and decreased pro-inflammatory cytokine expression[1][2][3][4]. This investigational cell therapy is primarily under evaluation as a potential treatment for atherosclerosis and other inflammatory vascular disorders[1][2][3][4].
