Drug intelligence / Profile preview
itLysin is a proprietary engineered endolysin platform developed by iNtRON Biotechnology for the treatment of infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria, commonly known as superbugs. Endolysins are highly specific enzymes derived from bacteriophages that target and hydrolyze the peptidoglycan layer of the bacterial cell wall, resulting in rapid osmotic lysis and death of the pathogen. The itLysin platform focuses on optimizing these enzymes for therapeutic use by improving their stability, lytic efficiency, and spectrum of activity. The lead candidate from this platform, SAL200 (tonabacase), has been investigated in clinical trials for the treatment of *Staphylococcus aureus* bacteremia and other systemic infections.
