Overview

ITM-63 is a targeted radiopharmaceutical consisting of a somatostatin receptor (SSTR) antagonist labeled with the radioisotope terbium-161 (Tb-161). Developed by ITM Isotope Technologies Munich SE, it is designed for the treatment of SSTR-positive (SSTR+) tumors, such as neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Unlike traditional SSTR agonists, ITM-63 utilizes an antagonist ligand, which may offer higher tumor uptake and longer retention times. The radioisotope Tb-161 is a beta-minus emitter that also produces a high yield of low-energy Auger and internal conversion electrons, providing highly localized, high-LET (linear energy transfer) radiation. This emission profile allows for the effective targeting of micro-metastases and individual cancer cells while minimizing off-target effects on surrounding healthy tissue. ITM-63 forms a theranostic pair with ITM-64, a gallium-68 (Ga-68) based diagnostic companion.
