Itragel

Itragel is a topical antifungal gel developed by Anthus Pharmaceuticals, containing 1% w/w itraconazole as its active ingredient. It is indicated for the management of various fungal infections of the skin, nails, and mucous membranes, including tinea infections and candidiasis. As an azole antifungal, Itragel works by inhibiting the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase (CYP51), which is essential for the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. The resulting depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of methylated sterol precursors disrupt the structure and function of the fungal cell membrane, leading to structural abnormalities and eventual destruction of the fungal cell. Itragel is designed for external application to affected areas.
