Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Delmectin Super is a veterinary antiparasitic combination product developed and marketed by Wayzon Pharma. It contains ivermectin, a macrocyclic lactone, and clorsulon, a sulfonamide. Ivermectin provides broad-spectrum activity against gastrointestinal roundworms, lungworms, and external parasites like lice and mites by binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels, causing hyperpolarization and paralysis of the parasite's nerve and muscle cells. Clorsulon specifically targets adult liver flukes (*Fasciola hepatica*) by inhibiting enzymes in the glycolytic pathway, notably 3-phosphoglycerate kinase and phosphoglyceromutase, thereby disrupting the fluke's energy metabolism. The product is typically administered via subcutaneous injection to cattle and other livestock for the treatment and control of internal and external parasites.
