Overview

A triple-drug combination therapy consisting of ivermectin, diethylcarbamazine, and albendazole (IDA) primarily used for the treatment and elimination of lymphatic filariasis. This combination is administered as a single dose with ivermectin (200 μg per kg of bodyweight), diethylcarbamazine (6 mg per kg of bodyweight), and albendazole (400 mg). The triple-drug therapy has demonstrated superior efficacy compared to traditional two-drug regimens, showing faster clearance of microfilariae and more rapid achievement of WHO elimination targets for lymphatic filariasis. Each component targets the parasites through different mechanisms: ivermectin disrupts parasite nerve and muscle function, diethylcarbamazine opens TRP channels causing temporary spastic paralysis, and albendazole inhibits microtubule formation preventing cell division in parasites.
