IVMED-85 is an investigational daily topical eye drop developed for the treatment of pediatric myopia. Its mechanism involves strengthening scleral and corneal collagen crosslinks by activating lysyl oxidase (LOX), a copper-dependent enzyme that mediates physiologic collagen crosslinking. This process is intended to flatten the cornea, stiffen the sclera, reduce axial elongation, and ultimately slow or arrest progression of myopia in children. The drug contains copper as an active component to enhance LOX activity, which is typically reduced in myopic sclera. IVMED-85 represents a novel approach as it aims to induce both scleral and corneal crosslinking through pharmacological means rather than surgical intervention. Developed by iVeena Delivery Systems, clinical trials are planned with Phase 2 studies expected to begin in 2025 for progressive myopia[1][4][7].
