IVX-241 is a vaccine candidate developed as a virus-like particle (VLP) displaying the prefusion F protein of human metapneumovirus (hMPV). It is designed to induce protective immunity against hMPV by presenting the prefusion conformation of the F antigen, which is critical for viral entry into host cells. The prefusion F antigen in IVX-241 incorporates key mutations licensed from the NIH and University of Texas to stabilize its structure. IVX-241 is used in combination with IVX-121 (an RSV VLP vaccine) as part of the bivalent investigational vaccine IVX-A12, but can also be studied independently. The VLP modality aims to mimic natural viral structures, potentially eliciting robust and durable immune responses with fewer side effects compared to non-VLP vaccines[3][4][6]. The primary indication for IVX-241 is prevention of human metapneumovirus infection, particularly in older adults[4][6].
