Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IW001 is an orally administered solution of type V collagen being developed by ImmuneWorks as an antigen-specific immunotherapy for fibrotic lung disease, particularly idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). In a phase 1, open-label, multidose trial in IPF, IW001 was given once daily at escalating doses to assess safety, tolerability, and biologic effects, including induction of antigen-specific immune tolerance to type V collagen, which is implicated as an autoantigen driving aberrant immune responses and fibrosis in the lung interstitium.[5][7][11] By modulating immune reactivity to type V collagen rather than acting as a broad immunosuppressant, IW001 is intended to reduce ongoing fibrotic injury while minimizing systemic immunosuppression.
