Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**IW5** is an orally administered five-strain probiotic formulation, also called **Indiv Wellness**, developed as a potential microbiome-directed treatment for atopic dermatitis. It contains *Bifidobacterium lactis* UABLa-12, *Lactobacillus acidophilus* La-14, *Lactobacillus helveticus* R0052, *Lactobacillus salivarius* LS97, and *Lactobacillus casei* LC89. In an MC903-induced mouse model of atopic dermatitis, IW5 reduced dermatitis severity, inflammatory cytokine expression, mast-cell infiltration, and serum IgE. Its proposed mechanism is modulation of intestinal microbiota and increased fecal short-chain fatty acids, particularly butyrate, which promoted tolerogenic CD103-positive dendritic cells and regulatory T cells while reducing type 1 and type 2 T-cell responses. Public evidence is limited to preclinical mouse research; no human clinical efficacy has been established.
