Drug intelligence / Profile preview
iXB 120 is a sublingual wafer formulation of dexmedetomidine developed by iX Biopharma using its proprietary WaferiX platform. Dexmedetomidine is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that provides sedative, anxiolytic, and analgesic effects without significant respiratory depression. iXB 120 is being developed for the treatment of central nervous system disorders, specifically targeting acute agitation and dementia-related agitation. The sublingual wafer delivery system is designed for rapid dissolution and absorption through the oral mucosa, aiming for a faster onset of action and improved bioavailability compared to oral administration. A Phase 1 clinical trial (DEX-001) demonstrated that iXB 120 has high bioavailability and dose proportionality relative to intravenous administration.
