Overview

IxCell hUC-MSC-S is a cell-based biologic therapy developed by Shanghai IxCell Biotechnology Co., Ltd. for the treatment of ischemic stroke, specifically in the recovery phase. The therapy consists of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) administered via a single intravenous infusion. Its mechanism of action is multifaceted, involving immunomodulation by upregulating anti-inflammatory cytokines like Interleukin-10 (IL-10) and downregulating pro-inflammatory factors such as Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α). Additionally, these cells secrete neurotrophic factors, including Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), Glial Cell Line-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (GDNF), and basic Fibroblast Growth Factor (bFGF), which promote neurogenesis, support cell survival, and enhance neural plasticity to improve neurological deficits following ischemia.
