IxCell human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells are an allogeneic, umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell (UC-MSC) therapy developed by IxCell Biotechnology. These cells are characterized by their high proliferative capacity, low immunogenicity, and potent immunomodulatory properties. Upon administration, the cells migrate to sites of injury or inflammation where they exert therapeutic effects primarily through paracrine signaling. They secrete a variety of bioactive molecules, including anti-inflammatory cytokines, growth factors, and extracellular vesicles, which modulate the activity of various immune cells such as T-cells, B-cells, and macrophages. This immunomodulatory action helps to dampen systemic or localized inflammation while promoting an environment conducive to endogenous tissue repair and regeneration. The product is currently under clinical investigation for various indications, including knee osteoarthritis, COVID-19-associated pneumonia, and liver cirrhosis.
