Ixmyelocel-T is an autologous, expanded multicellular therapy derived from a patient's own bone marrow. It is produced using the proprietary Aastrom Replicell System, which selectively expands specific cell populations—primarily CD90+ mesenchymal stem cells and CD14+ monocytes/macrophages (polarized toward an M2 anti-inflammatory phenotype)—while significantly reducing the number of granulocytes. The therapy was developed by Vericel Corporation (formerly Aastrom Biosciences) and was primarily investigated for the treatment of ischemic cardiovascular conditions, including critical limb ischemia (CLI) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Despite reaching Phase 2b clinical trials (the RESTORE-CLI and ix-CELL-DCM studies), Vericel announced in 2016 that it would discontinue the development of ixmyelocel-T to focus resources on its commercial cartilage and skin repair products.
